You deserve to feel understood — not dismissed.

Meet Your Practitioner, Lawrey Calabro

Hi, I’m Lawrey.

Naturopath, herbalist, hormone nerd — and someone who genuinely enjoys working out why you don’t feel like yourself anymore.

For over 20 years, I’ve worked with people who know something in their health has shifted, but haven’t necessarily been able to put all the pieces together.

Today, my particular focus is women’s hormonal and thyroid health — especially that messy middle ground where

perimenopause, menstrual changes, thyroid function, metabolism, stress, nutrition and gut health can all overlap.

Because sometimes it is your hormones.

Sometimes your thyroid needs a closer look.

And sometimes there are several things quietly contributing to the way you feel.

My job is to help you make sense of it.

Over 20 years of clinical experience

I’m a degree-qualified Naturopath and Herbalist with over 20 years of clinical experience,

supported by extensive continuing education in endocrinology, thyroid health, reproductive hormones, metabolic health and functional medicine.

My qualifications and professional training include:

Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy)

Diploma of Nutrition

Diploma of Herbal Medicine

ACNEM Primary Certification

Certified GAPS Practitioner

Poliquin BioSignature Practitioner – Level 2

Extensive continuing clinical education in endocrinology, thyroid, hormonal and metabolic health

My clinical interests have increasingly centred around thyroid and autoimmune thyroid health, women’s hormones, disrupted menstrual cycles, perimenopause and menopause, metabolic health, insulin resistance and digestive health.

But after more than two decades of working one-to-one with clients, I’ve also learnt that good healthcare isn’t simply about knowing more.

It’s knowing which information matters for the person sitting in front of you.

What makes my approach different?

I don’t start with a protocol. I start with you.

There are plenty of health programs that give everyone with the same diagnosis essentially the same plan.

That’s not how I work.

Your first consultation is a proper investigation.

I want to understand what has changed, when it changed and what was happening beforehand.

We’ll talk about your symptoms, menstrual cycle, thyroid history, energy, sleep, digestion, stress, nutrition, medications and supplements. We’ll also look closely at any pathology or testing you’ve already had.

Then we start connecting the dots.

Sometimes that means looking more closely at thyroid function.

Sometimes reproductive hormones.

Sometimes iron, B12, blood sugar, insulin, inflammation, digestion, nutrient status or stress physiology deserve our attention too.

And sometimes the smartest thing we can do is not order another test, because you’ve already had the information we need.

Testing should answer a question — not create another pile of paperwork.

I’m comfortable working with conventional blood pathology alongside more specialised functional testing when it’s useful.

Depending on your individual situation, this might include comprehensive thyroid and metabolic blood testing, reproductive hormone assessment, urine hormone metabolite testing or gastrointestinal investigations.

But I don’t believe in testing everything simply because we can.

We investigate what’s relevant to you — and then translate that information into something practical.

You shouldn’t leave your appointment with 27 abnormal-looking numbers and a new anxiety disorder.

You should leave understanding:

What matters.
What we’re going to work on first.
And why.

Your health doesn’t exist in separate boxes.

This is probably the part of naturopathy I love most.

A woman can arrive thinking she has a hormone problem and we discover that iron deficiency, thyroid function, blood-sugar regulation or something else is also contributing to the way she feels.

Another may come because of her thyroid, but her menstrual cycle, digestion, stress, sleep or nutritional status gives us another important piece of the puzzle.

And this becomes particularly relevant during perimenopause and menopause, when changing hormones can influence so many aspects of how you feel.

My approach brings together your clinical history, pathology, functional testing where appropriate, nutrition, herbal medicine, targeted nutritional supplementation and realistic lifestyle strategies to create a plan around the individual sitting in front of me.

Your plan isn’t something I hand you and forget about either.

We review. We adjust. We see how your body responds.

Because what you need three months from now may be quite different from what you need today.

Professional expertise. Human conversations.

After more than 20 years in practice, I know that being knowledgeable isn’t enough.

You also need to feel heard.

I want you to be able to tell me about the symptom that seems silly.

The period that’s suddenly gone rogue.

The 3am wake-ups.

The anxiety that seemingly came from nowhere.

The weight that suddenly seems determined to do its own thing.

Or the fact that despite being told your results look fine, you know you don’t feel fine.

There is room for all of that in our consultation.

My job isn’t to lecture you about everything you should be doing better.

It’s to help you understand your body, decide what deserves our attention and create a plan that’s realistic enough to actually fit into your life.

Less guessing. Less overwhelm. More clarity about what to do next.

A little about how I got here…

My interest in natural medicine started long before it became my career.

I was initially drawn to the natural health world through aromatherapy, after my mum — who was a nurse — gave me a book about holistic healing and aromatherapy.

That curiosity eventually grew into a much deeper fascination with herbal medicine, nutrition and how the human body works, and ultimately led me to naturopathy.

More than two decades later, I’m still learning.

And I think that matters.

Our understanding of thyroid health, women’s hormones, metabolism, the microbiome and menopause continues to evolve. Ongoing education has always been an important part of the way I practise.

But perhaps some of the most valuable education has come from more than 20 years of sitting across from real people with complicated health stories that rarely fit neatly into a textbook.

That experience has taught me to stay curious, ask better questions and look beyond the obvious.

And before naturopathy?

I was a classical double bass player.

Eventually I swapped the orchestra for herbal medicine — although I’d argue both require a good ear, patience and an appreciation that

when one thing is slightly out of tune, it can affect the whole performance.

And the classical music has definitely stayed. Give me a beautiful piece of music, an espresso and five uninterrupted minutes and I’m very happy.

The five uninterrupted minutes are usually the difficult part.

When I’m not wearing my naturopath hat…

I’m a wife, mum of two, family cook and apparently professional driver to my children’s ever-expanding social and extracurricular calendars.

I’m still waiting for someone to explain how two children can require quite so much driving.

At home, I’m usually cooking nutritious meals, experimenting with something new in the kitchen or

indulging my curiosity by trying some piece of health research on myself.

I suppose you could call it biohacking.

My family probably calls it, “What are you trying now, Mum?”

A new supplement, health gadget or strange-looking ingredient appearing in our house is rarely cause for surprise.

And while I absolutely believe in good food, movement, sleep and looking after ourselves, I also live in the real world.

There are children to get places, work to do, dinners to make, washing that somehow regenerates overnight and weeks when everything doesn’t go according to plan.

That’s probably made me a better practitioner too.

Because looking after your health has to work within the life you’re actually living.

I’m not here to give you a wellness routine that requires three hours of spare time, a personal chef and a house without children.

I’m here to help you make meaningful, sustainable changes that you can actually live with.

Ultimately, this is why I do what I do.

One of the things I find most rewarding is seeing a woman begin to feel like herself again.

Not because every pathology marker is suddenly perfect.

But because she has more energy.

She’s sleeping better.

She understands what’s happening in her body.

She feels confident about what she’s doing rather than endlessly wondering what she should be doing.

And she has more capacity for the people and things that matter to her.

Because ultimately, good health isn’t about achieving perfect pathology results.

It’s about having the health to participate fully in your own life.

Ready to work out what’s happening?

Whether you’re navigating thyroid issues, Hashimoto’s, disrupted periods, hormonal changes, perimenopause, menopause, metabolic changes — or you simply know that something isn’t quite right — you don’t have to work out which box you fit into before you come to see me.

That’s what I’m here for. We’ll start with you.
